About Us

Heroes’ Welcome Honor Flight officially became a hub on February 11, 2010. Heroes' Welcome was formed by a core group of Honor Flight volunteers who are committed to providing our Nation’s World War II a “Heroes’ Welcome” to our Nation’s Capital and their Memorial. During a few brainstorming sessions, they realized that more could be done to make this a memorable occasion than wave a flag and shake their hands.

Prior to one flight in 2009; one of the hubs sent a “scout” to prepare the way for one of these trips. During her visit, she introduced one of these “core” volunteers to the members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 180 in Vienna, VA. That day, a life-long friendship was forged, introductions of the other volunteers were made and a new “family” of volunteers came to life.

In late 2009, this core group of volunteers joined forces with the American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 180 and formed what is now known as “Heroes Welcome” Honor Flight. Our mission is to ensure our Nation’s Heroes get the best welcome possible and are provided with all that they need to make their trip to the Nation’s Capital and unforgettable day in their lives.
